What You Need to Know About Krill Oil and the Heart
What makes up the largest animal biomass on earth, with about 500 million tons populating the cold oceans of the world, but are each only about 2 inches long? Here’s a hint: The oil from this organism is good for your heart.
It’s krill, a small, shrimp-like crustacean.
Krill oil helps support the heart muscle, protect cell membrane health and maintain cholesterol levels already within a normal range. The oil from these crustaceans contains the Omega-3s DHA and EPA in phospholipid structure, as opposed to the triglyceride form found in fish oil.
Why are Omega-3s so good for you? In 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a qualified health claim for Omega-3 fatty acids and reduced risk of coronary heart disease for conventional foods and dietary supplements that contain EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids and meet other requirements laid out by the FDA. We covered the science behind Omega-3s in a recent article, “The Science Behind Omega-3s and Your Heart.” If you are looking to support your health with these fatty acids, consider supplementing with cardio-supportive krill oil.
I recommend eating two servings of fatty fish per week based on the American Heart Association’s guidelines. But if you’re occasionally unable to meet the dietary requirements for Omega-3 intake due to a busy lifestyle, you might consider supplementing with a krill oil source like Herbalife’s Tri-Shield®. A proprietary formula with 100 percent pure Neptune Krill Oil (NKO®†), Tri-Shield® includes three heart-healthy compounds that help support your heart.* Neptune Krill Oil helps support the heart muscle, protect cell membrane health and maintain cholesterol levels already within a normal range.*
Are you getting enough Omega-3s in your diet? If not, try increasing your dietary intake by eating two servings of fatty fish per week. Then, consider taking a supplement in conjunction with a healthy diet to help meet your daily Omega-3 needs. Now is a great time to get started.
What dietary choices do you make to ensure you’re getting enough Omega-3s?
